#134 Italy residency toolbox

4-18 March 2024 Residency in Naples, Italy. Topic: INCLUSIVITY Inclusivity in dance and the performing arts was the theme of the two-week residency in Italy, part of the creative residency programme "Dancing Together, Again!" organised by Movimento Danza in collaboration with the Arts Research Institute of Georgia, TRAFIK Dance/Theatre Company and the National Institute of Music and Dance of Poland. The twelve participants in this third residency, which began on 4 March and ended on 18-20 March, were selected through an open call from four participating countries and engaged with the Italian dance community to discuss inclusivity in the performing arts, with a focus on intergenerational and intercultural exchange. The ideas gathered during these exchanges were incorporated into the choreographic creations developed during the residency and presented to the public on Saturday 16 March and Sunday 17 March at Spazio Körper. "Inclusion", explained Gabriella Stazio, ch...

#133 Croatia residency toolbox

4-24 September 2023 Residency in Rijeka, Croatia. Topic: SUSTAINABILITY   The three-week Rijeka residency explored one of today's burning issues - SUSTAINABILITY - from the perspective of 12 participants - dance artists, curators and producers working in the performing arts from four countries: Georgia, Italy, Poland and Croatia. In the collective reflection on the theme of SUSTAINABILITY, the residency, with the help of Croatian coordinators, was designed so that the work would take place in three different contexts: - in the sea, - in the forest, - in a recycling yard, - in a dance studio. Working in the sea was particularly inspiring as Rijeka is a major Adriatic port. Participants explored the somatic relationship between the body and seawater, the problem of floating plastic and its impact on the marine ecosystem. The warm-up dance training in pairs, led by participant and Croatian dance artist Jasna Čižmek Tarbuk, was interesting, focusing on the supportive anti-gravity and h...

#132 Georgia residency toolbox

27 May-18 June 2023 Residency in Tbilisi, Georgia. Topic: AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT Dancing Again Together was a unique experience for our whole team. First of all, it brought together representatives from different countries such as Italy, Poland, Croatia and Georgia, with different cultural and social backgrounds. From the very beginning we had in mind to create special tasks for the participants: many different things to choose, introducing local communities and culture, giving theoretical presentations etc. We aimed at making emotional and impressionable visits to the countryside, meeting with local artists, activists, presenting our cases. And all of this must be like a special inspiration for their future creation, as their artistic feedback on what they see and feel from this residency, from the people with whom they meet or work with. From the very beginning, the first meeting with one of the bishops who runs an animation festival, an art school, a shadow theatre and many other init...

#131 Final presentations in Poland

Finally Warsaw I am very grateful that I was chosen to be a participant in this project. It was an immense pleasure to meet colleagues from other countries again after a year. It was also an excellent idea to meet Croatian artists from other residencies who made it easier for us to get to know their partners and meet new artists. In fact, very soon after the first meeting and we quickly caught up again. The whole project was brilliantly organized. The accommodation was nice and in a convenient location, as well as all other necessary things such as shops, food, etc. I was, honestly, a little scared at the beginning because of the size of Warsaw. All the streets are very spacious, and if you get out of the subway on the wrong side, you must walk for 10 minutes until you find your way again. But we overcame that very quickly and found our way to the Dance School and the Film Institute. One of the goals of this project was networking, that is, getting to know artists from Your own as we...

#130 Final presentations in Poland

I'm very grateful I could take part in this residency as a researcher and author, because in this way I could have explored the movement in the environment of different artists, dancers and performers in new ambient and situations within a multicultural approach. The first meeting and work in Rijeka culminated in our All together point in Warsaw, where we all met and did our performances. We finally met each other in movement and dance. In the beautiful city of Warsaw we had our rehearsals at a Ballet dance school and the last few days of preparation and performances in front of the audience were in FINA, a very good audiovisual institute with a good team of people who helped us to put everything exactly on the stage. I love the creative process we went through. We had a lot of physical dance work but also with interactions and communication between each other, so we learned a lot. Also we were so friendly, supportive and caring for each other all the time. This very pleasant and ...

#129 Final presentations in Poland

My final residency in Warsaw was a truly unique journey. It was a great pleasure to reconnect with my colleagues from different countries and share daily life moments with them. I had the opportunity to work on something new, including a small homage to Kieslowski's work. Traveling and being in different places is always a powerful experience for me—exchanging ideas and artistic visions with other artists is invaluable, especially for my personal growth. As I reflect on this time, I find myself hopeful that some collaborative projects among us artists will emerge in the near future. By Toni Flego
