“Walking is the most revolutionary thing” Tbilisi greeted me on landing with the first light of dawn, giving its best and most vital image. I am here to understand what the nocturnal voices of the city are: what the walls say through the writing, how bodies show themselves when they are not lit by the everyday, what sensitivity is needed. In the early days, the key word was 'urgency': that of building a theatre when you have to rebuild everything. We have the urgency to share words - and many toasts - to guests who speak different languages; to use the right words to talk. To attend a drag ball where the energy rises with the awareness of experiencing a moment of freedom that cannot be taken for granted.
