#66 Residency in Croatia

To Sustain During the second week of our residency, Giulia and I chose to delve into the fundamental essence of the concept of "sustainability." We aimed to transmute this term into a movement workshop, tracing it back to its roots. Returning to the Latin origins of the word “sustĭnēre”, we discovered meanings such as to sustain, defend, support, care for, and preserve. From there, we structured our workshop, centering on the concept of WEIGHT. This approach allowed us to explore the perception of our bodies, our relationships with others, and the surrounding environment. At the core of the activity was the act of perceiving one's own weight in relation to others, with the aim of collectively seeking physical and relational equilibrium, supporting one another. → A tension that should also exist for the planet, creating an ecosystem in which diverse forces coordinate to maintain balance and stability. We drew parallels between the activity and the overarching theme of the residency: - Managing weight and forces → Managing resources. - Restoring balance amid excesses and negotiating compromises. - Drawing strength from interaction with others. In a second phase of the workshop, we worked on the bodily memory of each other's presence and explored these sensations through individual improvisation. We maintained our focus on the relationship of the body with the surrounding space and sought to integrate the sensations experienced with others into our movements. This workshop constituted a profound and intense experience, during which we explored the boundaries of our bodies and the interplay with others. Finally, after a moment of reflection, I presented some stimulus questions, some inspired directly by the activity (e.g., “What does it mean to support something? What does it involve supporting a weight? and to sustain the environment?”, “What are we willing to give up and offer? And on the other hand, what do we need to restore our inner balance?”), and others more general, to stimulate deeper reflections on everyone’s personal artistic exploration in relation to the overarching theme of the residency. The responses that I received are like interlocking rings that come full circle, drawing strength from their essence, much like recycling breathes new life into materials. These responses will inspire us to reflect further and embark on future research, a process in which body movements, emotions, thoughts, and words merge into a single stream of shared collective knowledge. I thank everyone for participating with such intensity and for immersing themselves fully in the present moment of dance. Along with these reflections, I'm sharing some still images from the footage captured by Giulia.

Suzdržati Tijekom drugog tjedna naše rezidencije, Giulia i ja smo odlučili proniknuti u temeljnu bit koncepta "održivosti". - Uspostavljanje ravnoteže usred ekscesa i pregovaranje o kompromisima.

DTA residency will stay for me as one of the unforgettable projects, the experience and impact it has left on me, will follow me for many years. Now let’s circle back and let me tell you all the details I find interesting within this final presentation's 10 days residency. Once we all arrived in Warsaw, Poland, we all together had a big meet up in the hotel to receive our accommodation keys and to get city transportation tickets, for us to make it easier to travel independently. Seeing our friends from previous residency was surprisingly overwhelming and we felt lucky & thankful that we met each other again within the project! The accommodation itself was really nice & clean, even though the space was small it was perfectly suitable for a solo traveler. Together with tickets we also have received vouchers from local stores to buy ourselves dinner products and vouchers for the local bakery downstairs, which was nice for breakfast/brunch options. After one day to rest and res...

#127 Final presentations in Poland

Re-connecting in final residency in Warsaw It was a great opportunity for me to be a part of dance residency EU Project "Dancing together again" and to connect to other colleagues from participating countries, first in Napoli, then finally meeting all colleagues in Warsaw who have participated in previous residencies in Tbilisi, Rijeka and Napoli. I am very grateful to be able to participate in this project as the residencies were a rare opportunity for me to be able to focus only on dance artistic process, without needing to take care of other everyday duties. The weather in Warsaw was much cooler than in my hometown Zagreb during summer, which I really liked. However, this time it affected me in such a way that after the first few days of residency I got sick with a high fever and was forced to spend a few days in my room before I recovered. This unexpected situation allowed me enough space to process all the new information about first impressions of Warsaw residency on ...
